Green Dragon Bristlenose Pleco

The Green Dragon Bristlenose Pleco is a selectively bred variation of the common Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus spp.), a popular freshwater catfish species in the aquarium hobby. This variation is known for its distinctive green coloration and unique appearance.

Like other Bristlenose Plecos, the Green Dragon variety has a stout body with a flattened abdomen and a series of bristle-like appendages on its head, particularly prominent in males. These bristles are used for sensory purposes and are more pronounced in mature males.

The Green Dragon Bristlenose Pleco typically exhibits a vibrant green coloration with intricate patterns and markings. The intensity and shade of green can vary between individuals, and some may even display iridescent or metallic sheens. Females usually have a slightly lighter coloration compared to males.

In terms of care, the Green Dragon Bristlenose Pleco is relatively hardy and suitable for beginner aquarists. It's recommended to provide them with a varied diet that includes high-quality sinking algae wafers or pellets. Supplementing their diet with fresh vegetables such as blanched zucchini, cucumber, or spinach can also be beneficial.

Breeding Bristlenose Plecos, including the Green Dragon variety, can be achieved with proper care and conditions. They are cave spawners, and providing suitable spawning sites such as caves or specially designed breeding cones is essential. The female will lay adhesive eggs inside the chosen spawning site, and the male will guard and fan the eggs until they hatch. The fry can be fed crushed flakes, powdered fry food, or small live foods.
