Unpack your blackworms right away. Shipping is stressful for them, so they should be rinsed and refrigerated as soon as possible. It's normal for the worms to appear still or to have expelled water during transit—this is temporary. With proper care, they will become active again and reabsorb the lost water weight.

How to Rinse and Store Blackworms

1. Place the blackworms in a fine mesh net and rinse thoroughly with cold tap water.

2. Gently rub them with your hands to remove any debris from the shipping water.

3. Transfer the worms to a shallow container, spreading them out in a thin layer. Avoid overcrowding—worms need access to the surface to breathe, and crowding can lead to suffocation and death.

4. Add pre-chilled, dechlorinated water just deep enough to barely cover the worms.

5. Place the container in the refrigerator without a lid. A closed container can trap gases and kill the worms.

6. Rinse and repeat this process daily. With consistent care, blackworms can live for several months.

Leeches in Your Order

It is normal to find a few small leeches in your shipment. These are harmless, naturally occurring plant leeches from the ponds where blackworms are harvested.

• White leeches are dead and can be discarded.

• Gray leeches are alive and may cling to the sides of your container. They can be easily removed during your daily rinses.
